I recently wrote a guest post for my friend Mike's blog about reducing the impact we have on waste in the world. This was hard because I really don't care about the environment. You can read the first two paragraphs below, but you need to go to his website (link included at the bottom) to see the whole thing.
I should start off by telling you that I don’t really care about the environment. I mean, I care in the sense that if you gave me a choice between a layer of man-made smog blanketing our entire planet and cutting off fresh air for all future generations or not blanketing our entire planet and cutting off fresh air for all future generations, I would vote for “not.” And I am happy to be that guy who forcefully agrees with you while we blame all of nature’s woes on big business, the politicians who look the other way, and your neighbor who drives a Hummer. As long as we’re talking about the problem in the abstract, I’ll gladly be the biggest tree-hugger in the world.
But if you want me to alter my behavior or inconvenience myself in any way for the cause, then I’m out.
